It took overtime, but the Portage Terriers picked up their sixth win in a row on Saturday night, beating the Neepawa Titans 4-3.
Portage looked strong early in the first period outshooting Neepawa 9-4. Koy Funk opened the scoring for Portage when he tipped a point shot from Nolan Nenow on the power play. 1-0 Terriers after 1.
Portage picked up where they left off in the second. Nolan Nenow banged in a puck at the side of the net just 19 seconds into the period. The Titans would start to show some push back when Jack Clark got his team on the board off the rush. Talen Wallis then scored four minutes later on a rebound to tie the game at two. Portage forward Will McKay would score on a rebound of his own later in the second to give Portage their 3-2 lead heading into the intermission.
Trailing by one, the Titans started to up their pressure and eventually Cooper Kasprick tied the game with his 7th of the season. A late penalty to Dawson McCann gave Portage a power play heading into overtime. With the man advantage it took Portage one minute and fifteen seconds for Dawson Madden to fire home the game winner from the top of the circles.
The Terriers’ special teams continue to improve. They went 2/3 on the power play and a perfect 2/2 on the penalty kill. They now get ready to host the Winkler Flyers on Sunday night at 6:30pm.
