A hard-fought game between the Portage Terriers and the Winkler Flyers ended with a 3-1 win for the Dogs.
A scoreless first period saw Portage outshoot Winkler 12-8 but both goaltenders made some outstanding saves to keep both offenses off the board.
The Flyers would open the scoring in the second period on a powerplay goal, but the Terriers would have a great shift right after to tie the game up. Decker Mujcin scored his fourth goal of the weekend, set up by Tristan Gravenor and Koy Funk.
Mujcin says he feels that the performance shows he’s getting to where he wants to be.
“It feels good, you know? I’m just putting my stick down, and going to the right spots and they’re going in for me right now.”
Koy Funk would score a goal of his own next, an unassisted marker which made it 2-1 for Portage. The only other entry after that was a fight between Terrier William McKay and Flyer Sully Ross, which had the crowd fired up.
Wyatt Dreger would score his second goal of the season on a nice play that saw Scott Cousins fake a drive behind the net, then cutting in front. The puck bounced near the Flyers netminder before ending up behind him, which gave the Terriers a 3-1 lead.
From there, Portage was content to kill the clock, and Ryan Velan stopped all the shots he faced in the third, totaling 28 saves in the win.
Scott Cousins was named the Klean King Hardest Working Player, and said that there were other choices.
“I honestly think the hardest working player could have gone to anybody. We’ve got a full lineup that’s going right now, and it shows.”
The Terriers now have some time off, before facing off with the Swan Valley Stampeders on Saturday, November 9 at 7:30 p.m.
