Portage la Prairie, September 6, 2022 – The Portage Terriers wrapped up a successful Main Camp sponsored by Pizza Pizza on Sunday afternoon.
The camp kicked off on Friday evening with 40 hopeful players vying for a spot on this year’s squad. With the promise of hosting the Centennial Cup on the minds of most of the players, the excitement level was higher than normal.
“I thought it went really well,” says Terrier defenceman Kian Calder. “It was a competitive camp and a good start to the year. I think it’s going to be a really exciting year for us as a team and for the fans as well. I’m really looking forward to getting started.”
Calder played with the Terriers at the start of last season before being traded to the Estevan Bruins where he won an SJHL title and got to participate in the Centennial Cup. He was sent back to the Terriers this off season.
Most of the returning players practiced Tuesday afternoon, with the remaining players resting before their preseason debut Tuesday night.
Portage hosts the Virden Oil Capitals Tuesday at 7:30pm at Stride Place. Admission is $5 cash at the door. Season ticket holders, and Kids Club members can pick up their cards and will get in for free.
